Trends of maternal mortality in a tertiary care hospital: a five year retrospective study

Background: Maternal mortality is a measure of quality health care in community. ratio very sensitive index that reflect the reproductive provided to pregnant women. The aims and objectives were study institutional maternal mortality, causes death impact COVID-19 on MMR.Methods: A retrospective hospital-based 38 was done over period 5 years from June 2016 May 2021 obstetrics gynaecology department, RIMS Imphal. Details all mortalities collected individual case sheets, facility based review forms MDR summary.Results: total deaths analysed. MMR 86 per 1 lakh live births. Maximum reported age group 30-34 years. Majority multipara (57.9%) as compared primipara (34.2%). Most them un-booked (63.2%) belonged rural areas (60.5%). commonest cause haemorrhage (42.1%) followed by hypertensive disorders (23.6%). Acute respiratory distress syndrome associated with SARS-CoV-2 one most important increasing rate (10.5%).Conclusions: Early identification high-risk pregnancy, regular antenatal check-up proper training personnel along timely referral tertiary centre can help reduce mortality. There an increase during current pandemic 2020-2021.
